Who is this guy?
David (黃大維) is a biracial Taiwanese American filmmaker and USC School of Cinematic Arts MFA graduate with a background in psychology and a passion for telling stories about immigrants and people striving to fit in. He began his career creating skits for the YouTube channel TheShortWalk, which garnered over 1 million views. His directorial debut short film was an Official Selection at Screamfest and Monsterfest.
At USC, David worked on award-winning productions, including Wei Lai, which won a Student Emmy. He wrote Go Dani Go, a comedy-drama about Central American immigrants in the U.S., selected for USC’s prestigious Capstone Course. The film won Best Picture at the WCA Feminist Media Film Festival and was an Official Selection at Oscar-qualifying festivals such as LA Shorts and the Cleveland International Film Festival. He also co-directed the WB-backed student feature Jack and Lou: A Gangster Love Story, starring Linda Hamilton, which premiered in February 2024 and is now in the festival circuit.
David’s producing credits include Split, accepted into the Oscar-qualifying Cinequest and LA Shorts festivals, and The Fisherman, a short about the African-European migrant crisis, set to premiere in 2025.
David is the recipient of accolades like the Jeffrey Jones Scholarship for Writing and the George Lucas Family Foundation Endowed Student Support Fund. He is currently developing the workplace sitcom Swap Meet Wars with Go Dani Go director Chelsea Ramirez, along with other projects.
